God Does Care About the Little Things: A Funny Answer to Prayer!
Ever since I moved into my room nine days ago, I have received frequent visits [every day] from bees! Now, I had gotten into a nest of Yellow Jackets when I was a child, and have since maintained a safe distance from any flying thing with a stinger. I am not terrified of them, and I do not mind them outdoors, but I do not care much for their presence within closed quarters.
After determining that they were coming in through a hole in the wall, a friend from maintenance came over and put filler in it. So, that seemed be the end of that!
Today, was a warm, sunny day (much appreciated in England). So, I opened the windows to allow the warm air to circulate in my room. When I returned after dinner, a lone bee had apparently decided that, since the hole was blocked, it would use the open window. And of course, it wanted to go back outside, but like most [stupid] insects, it couldn't retrace it's path and kept flying into the window panes.
With a sigh, I endeavored to direct the bee (from a reasonable distance) to where the window was open. But no matter what I tried, the bee would not take the clue. It buzzed between two different windows, and still could not find where the opening was. I finally concluded the only way to get it out was to capture it inside a glass jar I had, and then let it out the window.
So I pulled up one of the wooden chairs to stand on, and I raised the jar to cover the bee on the top window pane. I had just managed this when it suddenly occurred to me that there was no way I was going to get the lid on the jar without letting the bee out prematurely. I should have grabbed a piece of paper.
As I stood there evaluating my predicament, I considered possibly letting the bee back out to get the paper, and then try again. But as I watched the agitated bee buzzing back and forth trying to find a way out, I decided I didn't want to chance facing the wrath of an angry bee. So I continued to stand on the chair holding the jar against the window pane, and I wondered if the bee would have the graciousness to go deeper into the jar so I could put a lid over it.
Naturally it didn't feel inclined to cooperate.
After a few minutes had gone by I realized my only hope was for some assistance. I prayed to the Lord, "Please let someone knock on my door." Within a matter of seconds, there was a knock! I didn't hesitate to invite whoever in. It was one of my staff leaders coming to bring me the straw to the jar I was trapping the bee in. (Ironic!) I asked him if he could assist me and get a piece of paper off my desk, which he did. I slid it between the window and the jar opening and lowered the jar to let the bee outside. After a moment of realizing it had freedom again, the bee 'buzzed off.'
I gushed to my staff leader how much he was an answer to prayer as he took his leave. I was so relieved to no longer be standing on that chair holding an agitated bee trapped in the jar. And I quickly realized how funny it was that I was using the very jar to catch the bee, which was the reason for my staff leader coming over to begin with. And it didn't pass my notice that he didn't knock until after I had prayed for help!
It is in moments like these that I both rejoice in the Lord for caring about the little things in our lives, and also commend Him for His brilliant sense of humor!
