Recap Post 3 -Holy Spirit

The following week after 'Worldview' we learned about The Holy Spirit. I really believe God wanted me prepared for this topic because, just before I came down here, I saw a book about The Holy Spirit at a store and felt like I was supposed to by it. And then we did have to deal with a lot of prayer here at DTS regarding spiritual warfare and growth prior to this particular week.

I must say I have never heard anyone teach so in depth about The Holy Spirit before. It was a study of, not only Who The Holy Spirit is(1 Cor 2:10-11, Job 33:4, John 4:24,14:16,15:26,16:14), the authority we have in Him(Acts 1:8, Matt 28, Mark 16), but also a complete break down in understanding what 'the fruits of The Spirit' are.

We looked at what The Holy Spirit has been symbolized as in the Bible:
Wind            (John 3:8, Acts 2:1-4, John 20),
Water          (John 4:14, 7:37)
Fire              (Matt 3:11-12, Acts 2:3-4)
Oil                (1 Sam 16, Ex, Lev)
Dove            (Matt 3:16, Luke 3:22, Mark 1:10, John 1:32)
Seal/Crest                 (2 Cor 1:22, Eph 13-14)
Clothing w/ Power  (Luke 24:49, Eph 1:14)

What He does:
Brings new birth        (John 3:5-7, Rom 8:14-17)
Our Teacher                (John 15:26, Eph 4:3-6)

Makes the love
of God real to us         (Rom 5:5, John 15)

Gives us spirit of
redemption-makes
us on family with
other believers            (Rom 8)

Spirit of Unity              (2 Cor 3:17)
Produces fruit
in us                              (Gal 5:16)

We broke down what each of the fruits of The Spirit are in Gal by examining in more depth what other scriptures and definitions of each one is.

The Different Kinds of Gifts in The Spirit:
Motivational gifts (Rom 12:3-8)

Ministry gifts (Eph 4:1-16). I didn't realize before that they are actually listed in order of authority and how each one ties to the other. Study the list. It's interesting.

From 1 Cor 12 we broke down gifts in more catagories:
Revelation gifts: Wisdom, Knowledge, Discerning of spirits
Power gifts: Faih, Healing, Miracles
Inspirational gifts: Prophesy, Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues

More than just studying, we put into practice. However, that is a whole different story for another time.
